The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution endorsing a Palestinian state and promoting a two-state solution.
The measure condemns Hamas’s October 7 attack in southern Israel and criticizes Israel’s siege and starvation in Gaza.
Global Support and Opposition
Out of 193 member nations, 142 countries approved the New York Declaration, 10 opposed, and 12 abstained.
France and Saudi Arabia sponsored the resolution, calling for Palestinian Authority control over all Palestinian territories.
Transitional Governance and Disarmament
The declaration instructs Hamas to end its rule in Gaza, surrender weapons, and release all hostages.
It mandates forming a transitional administrative committee immediately after Gaza reaches a ceasefire.
UN Mission for Civilian Safety
The resolution proposes deploying a UN-backed force to protect Palestinian civilians and provide security for Israelis.
The mission will monitor the ceasefire, oversee the peaceful transfer of authority to the PA, and support long-term peace.
