Ruben Amorim accused his Manchester United side of becoming “too comfortable” after they surrendered control before rescuing a 3-3 draw against Tottenham.
United looked set for victory after Bryan Mbeumo’s first-half strike, only to lose their grip as Mathys Tel and Richarlison turned the game around for Spurs. A stoppage-time header from Matthijs de Ligt salvaged a point and extended United’s unbeaten run to five matches — but Amorim was unimpressed by his team’s complacency.
“We have a lot of problems, we are just in the beginning,” Amorim said. “Sometimes the results show improvement, but we were too comfortable. We should have been more aggressive, more aware that anything can change the game. The three points were there to take.”
There was also concern for substitute Benjamin Šeško, who limped off with a possible knee issue.
Spurs manager Thomas Frank defended his substitutions after fans booed his decision to replace Xavi Simons with Tel — a move that paid off when the youngster equalised minutes later. “Every time I make a change, it’s to win the game,” Frank said. “Sometimes you’re lucky, but today it worked perfectly.”
Despite extending their winless home run to six matches, Frank was upbeat about Tottenham’s progress:
“We’re getting closer. The reaction to go 2-1 up against a good United team shows we’re on the right path.”
