Arsenal fear that defender Gabriel Magalhães could miss a minimum of one month after suffering a thigh injury while on international duty with Brazil. The 27-year-old limped off during Brazil’s 2-0 win over Senegal at the Emirates last Saturday and returned to London for further assessment, where scans confirmed a muscle injury in his right thigh.
While testing is ongoing, Gabriel is expected to miss Sunday’s north London derby against Tottenham and Arsenal’s Champions League clash with Bayern Munich. Depending on the severity, he could also be sidelined for upcoming Premier League games against Chelsea, Brentford, and Aston Villa, as well as the Champions League trip to Club Brugge on 10 December.
The setback is a major blow for Arsenal’s title hopes. Gabriel has played every minute of their league campaign so far and has been central to a defence that has conceded just five goals in 11 matches. New signings Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are the leading options to step in.
Arsenal are also monitoring the fitness of striker Viktor Gyökeres, who is recovering from a hamstring issue, and Kai Havertz, who has experienced what Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann called a “minor relapse” in his knee injury recovery. Captain Martin Ødegaard, Noni Madueke, and Gabriel Martinelli remain unavailable as Mikel Arteta’s squad faces another injury-hit stretch of the season.
