Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank has said the club are not close to spending £100 million on a single player, unlike rivals Arsenal.
Spurs have undergone significant change following Daniel Levy’s departure as chairman and the installation of a new leadership team by the Lewis family. While there are plans to grow the club and increase competitiveness, Frank believes matching Arsenal’s spending model is not imminent. Arsenal’s £105m signing of Declan Rice in 2023 highlighted their ambitions, while Spurs’ record purchase remains Richarlison’s £60m move in 2022.
Frank suggested that while such a fee could be possible in the distant future, it is not a current reality for Tottenham. He stressed the importance of time, process and smart investment over record-breaking transfers.
He also emphasised player development as a key strategy, pointing out that top clubs like Liverpool and Manchester City have not relied solely on constant £80–90m signings to achieve success. Frank believes investing in players with potential at the right age is more important than headline fees.
Tottenham recently received £100m in funding from the Lewis family, with more expected, giving Frank greater spending power. He said the owners have committed to long-term success and that he is confident the club will be supported in its efforts to build a competitive team.
