Chicago set a new tourism record during the summer of 2025, with more than 3.5 million hotel room bookings from June to August. This achievement surpasses the previous record set in 2019 and highlights the city’s growing appeal to domestic and international travelers.

The record-breaking tourism boom generated $949 million in hotel revenue, benefiting local businesses, restaurants, and entertainment venues across the city. Chicago’s mix of cultural attractions, world-class dining, and vibrant events helped attract a diverse array of visitors during the peak summer months.

City officials noted that the surge in tourism reflects strong marketing efforts, improved infrastructure, and a renewed interest in urban travel post-pandemic. Analysts predict that continued investment in tourism and hospitality will help Chicago maintain its position as a top U.S. travel destination.

Hotel operators reported high occupancy rates and multiple fully booked weekends, indicating strong demand for accommodations and experiences in key neighborhoods, including downtown, the Loop, and the Magnificent Mile. The record numbers also underscore the city’s ability to host large-scale events, festivals, and conventions that draw visitors year-round.

Tourism experts say Chicago’s success demonstrates the resilience and growth potential of the U.S. travel industry, with the Windy City serving as a prime example of how cities can capitalize on cultural, culinary, and recreational offerings to boost visitor numbers and economic impact.
